The world around us is filled with systems and beliefs that promise us something: financial stability, the perfect marriage, success, popularity, good health, or a happy life. But what happens when those promises turn out to be empty? What happens when our health fails, when the money is gone, or when our marriage hits a rough patch? Where do we turn? What is there that supersedes it all and can offer peace, even in life’s storms?

Unfortunately, consumers are unlikely to see much, if any, benefit from this “gas tax holiday.” Instead, oil companies are the most likely beneficiaries.

Last month My City celebrated its 13th year as your local magazine, focused on covering all of the creative, artistic, successful, positive individuals and events of the greater Flint area. This month, I am celebrating one year with My City. After leaving the newspaper business after more than 20 years, I stepped into this role with the new publisher, Laura Constable, knowing that we didn’t want to mess with a good thing. We, however, added a few new features that allowed us to showcase even more local people.
