The Famous Vernor’s Mural
In 1932, General Signs workers John Gonsowski and Keith Martin painted a three-story mural to advertise Vernor’s Ginger Ale on the building across from the
For many of us, summertime brings back memories of visiting a family member’s house on the lake and all of the good times we had. Doing cannonballs off the dock, being pulled behind a boat on a tube and flying off to roaring laughter from friends, being able to “stand up” on water skis for the first time, early morning fishing … the list goes on. Here are five reasons to search for that lakeside property you’ve always wanted.
For most children and teenagers, summertime means freedom from school and excitement for no homework, more playtime and all the possibilities for the longer days … but that is not the case for all kids. For some, the long days of summer can be a time when behavioral health issues may need to be tended to more than usual with the lack of structured daily activity, more time spent at home, less time interacting with friends and lack of direction.
Currently, my partner and I are in the crucial phase of planning our big, summer adventure. Why crucial? One reason is because I have a “Type A” personality, so planning is required, and secondly, because two adults on their first European vacation as a couple plus one small boy equals, again, some advance planning.
Lady Bird Deeds, also known as Enhanced Life Estate Deeds, were first created and used in the state of Texas by attorneys in the late 1980s. They were named after Claudia Alta “Lady Bird” Johnson, the wife of former U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson, who passed away in 2007.
Due to losses on its bond portfolio, Silicon Valley Bank collapsed in March. What happened? Bonds are safer than stocks, but not perfectly safe. Bonds carry two risks: default risk and interest rate risk.

Let’s explore how simple lifestyle choices can help fuel your body’s natural defenses.
From its beginnings 67 years ago, Flint’s WJRT-TV Channel 12 stood apart from the other local television stations that signed on to serve mid-Michigan in the 1950s.
Who doesn’t like making plans for something fun? Whether it’s a night out with your closest friends or significant other to celebrate Valentine’s Day, a child’s birthday party, a Caribbean cruise, a weekend getaway with family, or even a wedding, planning joyful moments gives us something to look forward to. The cold days of February give us the perfect excuse to cozy up by the living room fireplace, scroll through ideas on our phones or tablets, and begin dreaming about what the rest of the year could hold. Often overlooked, February is actually the perfect month to plan the most meaningful events of the year.
I know it really doesn’t mean much in the long run, but I’m glad February is a short calendar month. It follows January, which can feel dreadfully long and cold with its 31 days here in Mid-Michigan. I mentioned in my January column that we started the year with a Caribbean cruise alongside some of our closest friends. We even squeezed in a few nights in our favorite beach town, New Smyrna Beach, Florida. It was the perfect getaway, and we all returned home with more cherished memories.
