It pains me a bit to write an article about back-to-school but, here we are in August – ‘tis the season! Whether you’re looking for cute, comfy or preppy styles, we’ve got you covered. This month, we’ll explore the best back-to-school and work outfits for 2024, including style tips for putting these outfits together.

On August 19, 1988, President Ronald Reagan issued proclamation No. 5847 declaring August 21 as National Senior Citizens Day. In this proclamation, President Reagan said:

I really love dogs, but I don’t have one of my own. I do have two granddogs: Macy (Beagle) and Lilly (Pit Bull), my daughter’s and grandson’s treasured pets. I have come to love both of them as I spend a lot of time with my daughter at their home in Bay City.

The 40-year high inflation the United States has experienced post-COVID has resulted in substantial hardship for Americans. Rising prices have reduced Americans’ purchasing power and standard of living.

The bounty of summer veggies never fails to impress and provides plenty of inspiration for delicious, light and healthy meals. But, after my family has eaten a “farmer’s dinner” of sliced tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers with some cheese & crackers so many days in a row, I’m on the lookout for ways to change things up a bit!

If you’re a frequent road traveler, you know there is an all-too-common expression that is not exclusive to Michigan. That is, “Our state has two seasons: winter and construction.” Even that is not necessarily true. Some construction lasts well into late fall when snow is often already flying and, in many cases, piling up. Why? Why not start earlier and finish earlier?

This summer, three days after saying our “I dos”, my husband and I (with my six-year old son) embarked on our honeymoon.

Beaches and boardwalks … Can you think of a better place to spend a perfect, sunny summer day in July? I have been to many beaches over the years and one of my very favorites is in Ocean City, MD. My family and I spent a week there every summer while I was growing up. Ocean City is a resort town famous for its ten miles of pristine beaches off the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay. It is also well known for its wooden boardwalks lined with a variety of restaurants and eateries, piers and shops.

When we talk about July ‘24 trends, we’re talking flowy dresses, vacation swimwear, beach cover-ups, linen sets, knitted slides – and that doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface. The season’s staples like simple tanks, white jeans and beach totes are not to be omitted, either. But most importantly, dresses and easy-breezy skirts you can wear to weddings, upscale lunches and parties are the keys to your fun, summer wardrobe!

July is National Picnic Month and there is no better way to spend a perfect summer day than by enjoying a simple meal spread out on a blanket in the sunshine. Fill your picnic basket or cooler with some delicious food and cold drinks, head out to your favorite park and you’re ready for al fresco fun.

In Houston, TX, summer is the season of storms. Unexpected rain, the sky grows dark in moments and in the distance, the sudden sound of thunder. And then, lightning lights up the sky like a jagged scar. The wind is ever present in Houston and angry – unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in Michigan or anywhere else. And then, the rain stops, the sky grows light again and if the ground wasn’t still wet from the recent downpour, one would almost think they had imagined it.

On a recent beautiful day, I was driving to the grocery store with my windows down and the radio blasting. An old favorite song came on and I began singing along and doing the head bop. I looked over at a vehicle stopped beside me at a light and the young driver looked at me like I had surely lost my mind. “Hey, lady – I may be older but I’m not that old.”
