It pains me a bit to write an article about back-to-school but, here we are in August – ‘tis the season! Whether you’re looking for cute, comfy or preppy styles, we’ve got you covered. This month, we’ll explore the best back-to-school and work outfits for 2024, including style tips for putting these outfits together.
August is still super warm and summery, so cool dresses, fun tanks, tops and layers are key. Let’s dive into the fashion fun!

On August 1, SHIFT celebrates two months in our new POP-UP space in Fenton! We are also excited because in our new home, we are fully embracing the sense of community and our philosophy of raising up other female-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. It continues to SHIFT our vibe, and that of those who interact and shop with us and our partners in an amazing and positive way. The ladies of SHIFT and the gifted gals of 1011 Fabrics are excited to introduce our “Parking Lot Parties on the Corner of Creativity.” Together with Fenton Winery & Brewery, we invite you to join us for once-a-month, one-of-a-kind evenings of collective creativity, savory snacks and social time with friends. Our first Wednesday Parking Lot Party was a wild success, featuring “Design a Badass Beach Tote” design and sewing workshop, vitamin B, C, D, biotin and mineral infusions with AMP Infusions – a female owned business in Davison – a bracelet charm bar, sales, shopping and libations! Spa Naturelle was also a fan fave and will be at future workshops providing mini-manicures and mini-massages. FWB provided the gin and Vibe Well in Fenton provided the juices. Stay tuned for future amazing local pairings!
The next workshop is Wednesday, August 21 at 12258 Fenton Rd., Fenton. We will design and create coir doormats with some pre-selected styles, and will feature bonus vendors just like our first Parking Lot Party. Upcoming workshops will include a “Design a Western Hat Bar” complete with leather, ribbon, feathers and other adornments, a cross-stitch gift kit, a gratitude tree, winter porch pots, throw pillows and a fused glass ornament class.
