On Saturday, February 29, the Flint Public Library will have its last day of service before renovations begin at the original location and throw a big party in celebration. The library will open at 9am and close at 6pm. The kick-off party will run from noon-4pm. Admission to the party is free. The library will be closed March 2020 and April 2020 and will reopen in its temporary location at Courtland Center in Burton in May 2020. Renovations are projected to be complete in August of 2021.

On Thursday, February 27, the Fenton Village Players will premiere “Of Mice and Men” at the Fenton Village Theatre – V. Sybyl Auditorium at 7pm. Tickets are $17 for adult, $16 for students and $10 for children. Tickets are available online at fentontheatre.org or at the box offices located at Fenton’s Open Book and the Fenton UPS Store. On Saturday, February 29, Adopt-A-Pet Fenton hosts the annual Wags & Whiskers in the Woods fundraiser at Camp Copneconic. The event begins at 5pm. Tickets are $95 to attend and are available for purchase at Adopt-A-Pet or online at WagsAndWhiskersAAP.com. This year’s theme is “Hollywood Impawsonators” and guests are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite Hollywood star or character for a chance to win prizes.

On Thursday, February 27, Genesee County Habitat for Humanity will hold their 30-year anniversary banquet at the Holiday Inn Gateway Center. Doors open at 5pm. Individual tickets to the event are $75.

March is just around the corner and it’s time to start thinking green!  The Ancient Order of Hibernians has announced the details of this year’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Flint. The 39th Annual St. Patrick’s Day festivities take place on Tuesday, March 17, from 12:02pm to 6pm. This year, the Grand Marshal is Flint resident Tony Vance, the Chief of the United States Attorney’s branch offices in Flint and Bay City. Also, in attendance will be 2020 Miss Hibernia Bridget Cassidy and her court, Mother of the Year Helen O’Dea of Clio, and Father of the Year Mike Vance of Fenton.

From February 21-23 at the Flint Repertory Theatre “Packrat,” the new puppet play will debut for children and adults. A co-production with Concrete Temple Theatre, Packrat follows one particular rodent named Bud as he travels through the Sagebrush Desert to discover the interconnectedness of us all. This visually stunning play contemplates humanity’s relationship with the natural world. The animal characters in the puppet show include packrat, ground squirrel, jackrabbit, scorpion, lizard, tortoise, burrowing owl and goshawk. The play is written and directed by Renee Philippi, designed by Carlo Adinolfi with original music by Lewis Finn.

This Sunday, February 23, the Flint Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform at the Mayfair Bible Church located at 5339 W. Pierson Rd. in Flushing. The music will start at 3pm. Admission to the show is FREE.

Mott Community College (MCC) Fine Arts and Social Sciences Department will cosponsor a performance of “The Gun Show,” an award-winning play by E. M. Lewis, today, Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 7pm in the Mott Memorial Building on the main campus in Flint, 1401 Court Street. Donation of $10 will be accepted at the door to benefit the Michigan Coalition Against Gun Violence. The performance will be followed by a question and answer session.

This Saturday, February 22, the Genesee County Historical Society will present “From Mexico to Michigan” at the Eastern Food Bank of Michigan from 10:30am to 12:30pm. This is a free event but attendees absolutely MUST RSVP as seating and resources are limited.
