Becky Gaskin joined the American Red Cross in Spring 2022, serving as the executive director for the East Central Bay, Michigan Chapter. She serves as the community liaison for the chapter, which is based in Flint and covers ten surrounding counties: Arenac, Bay, Genesee, Gladwin, Huron, Lapeer, Midland, Saginaw, Sanilac, and Tuscola.

It’s almost February, which means the Polar Plunge is right around the corner.

With $40,000 of their own money, William Gainey, Brian Tesler, M.D., and their son Aiden Gainey approached the Community Foundation of Greater Flint in July about establishing four endowments to benefit the Genesee County community. Those four endowments — the Genesee County Historical Society Fund, the Flint Genealogical Society Fund, the Whaley Historic House Museum Fund, and the Stockton House Museum Fund — were officially established on October 6.

At 70 years old, Richard (Dick) Skaff shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, his family owned business, Skaff Furniture Carpet One in Flint (Mundy Township), is preparing for another major expansion. He’s CEO and president.

Sue Peters has been named the next president of the Ruth Mott Foundation. She brings more than two decades of philanthropic and nonprofit experience in Flint, most recently serving as vice president of community impact at the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, where she specialized in grantmaking, community leadership, and resource development.

Ashley Bond was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint, effective August 11.

Joan (Joanie) M. O’Sullivan-Butler, president and CEO of John P. O’Sullivan Distributing, Inc., leads a second-generation beverage distribution company based in Grand Blanc. In her role, she oversees the distribution of beer, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages to over 2,200 retailers throughout mid-Michigan. Joanie has guided the family business through rapid organic sales growth, as well as multiple brand and territory acquisitions. Her leadership and passion have earned the company recognition as a top distributor by numerous supplier partners, including winning the prestigious Molson Coors President’s Award six times in the last 12 years.

Hurley Medical Center in Flint is proud to announce that Dr. Marc Moisi, director of neurosurgery at Hurley Medical Center, has been elected president of the Michigan Association of Neurosurgeons (MANS). Dr. Moisi will serve a two-year term leading Michigan’s statewide neurosurgical society, which continues to advance neurosurgical care and collaboration across hospitals and institutions.

For many, a summer day on the lake is pure Michigan: peaceful, carefree, and refreshing. But for individuals with disabilities or significant health challenges, the joy of a lake day can feel entirely out of reach.
