The Greater Flint Health Coalition, a nonprofit focused on improving the health of citizens in Flint and Genesee County, is relocating its headquarters to downtown Flint with support from the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) announced today in a news statement. The project is anticipated to generate a total capital investment of $2.8 million and create 20 full-time direct jobs in the healthcare sector.
“Greater Flint Health Coalition’s decision to relocate its headquarters to Downtown Flint will mean accessible, quality health care for area residents and further builds on Flint’s ongoing economic reformation,” says Jeff Mason, CEO of MEDC, the state’s chief marketing and business attraction agency, responsible for enabling long-term economic opportunity for all Michiganders. “It is through the hard work of many partners that this project is taking place, and we’re pleased to take part in that collaboration.”
Mid-Michigan Health Consortium, LLC. will redevelop a vacant, three-story building into the new home in Downtown Flint for the headquarters of the Greater Flint Health Coalition, a growing Flint-based nonprofit organization focused on improving the health status of Genesee County residents and the quality and cost-effectiveness of the health care system in the community. The project will consist of the renovation of a 12,000-square-foot commercial office building that has been vacant for more than two decades. The building will undergo structural repairs and have new high efficiency mechanical equipment and lighting installed. The project meets the strategic objectives of both the MEDC and local partners of transforming underutilized properties into vibrant areas.
Located on the corner of First Street and historic Buckham Alley, this project will redevelop a long vacant property while further extending Flint’s established “Health and Wellness District.” The facility will support a long-term, sustainable, cost and operating structure of a core nonprofit institution in Flint.
The Michigan Strategic Fund today awarded the project a $401,049 Michigan Community Revitalization Program performance-based grant. The city of Flint is engaged with the MEDC’s Redevelopment Ready Communities program. The project is part of a growing number of developments in and around Downtown Flint that are improving the overall economic climate and perception of the community. The addition of the new headquarters for the Greater Flint Health Coalition is anticipated to bring much-needed health services to downtown and spur additional revitalization efforts.
The city of Flint has committed a $185,000 in Community Development Block Grant façade award in support of the project. Philanthropic support for the project includes a $500,000 grant from the C.S. Mott Foundation, a Michigan Health Endowment Fund grant valued at $100,000 and a Daniel and Pamella DeVos Foundation grant valued at $75,000. The building was donated by Skypoint Ventures and has an estimated value of $365,000.
