Garfield is approximately 5 months old. He’s up to date on shots and is neutered. He was brought in because they had too many animals. Workers at the Humane Society noticed he was a little wobbly and they had West Flint Animal Hospital examine him. They checked him out and they think it may be neurological. He needs a home with no other animals and no small children. His adoption fee is $100. He is a very sweet boy, does have that goofy orange cat personality, and is getting stronger every day.
Many neurologically affected cats live happy, affectionate, and surprisingly normal lives. Conditions such as cerebellar hypoplasia often look alarming because of the wobbling and tremors, but affected cats can play, cuddle, and enjoy life just like other cats.
Adopting a kitten with a neurological condition can be incredibly rewarding. While these kittens often need a little extra care, many families find that the experience enriches their lives in unexpected ways.
Neurologically impaired kittens are frequently passed over in shelters because people worry about potential challenges. By adopting one, you’re giving a home to an animal that may have fewer chances of being adopted than a healthy kitten.
Many neurological conditions, particularly Cerebellar Hypoplasia, do not cause pain and are not progressive. These cats often play, purr, cuddle, chase toys, and form strong bonds with their families.
While every cat is different, many owners report that special-needs cats become especially attached to the people who care for them. The extra attention and assistance can create a deep sense of trust and companionship.
Caring for a kitten with different abilities can be a powerful lesson in kindness, patience, and acceptance. It can help older children understand that disabilities don’t diminish an individual’s worth or ability to enjoy life.
