Refresh Your Home for Summer

popocolor3Who Doesn’t Love Summer?

After a long and dreary Michigan winter, there is nothing better than sunny days and warmer evenings! It’s also the perfect season to change up your home’s interior. Freshening up your home for summer is simple and affordable. With floral accents, brighter décor and simple patio lights, Autumn Perry-MacClaren, a blogger at FourSeasonsofAutumn.com takes you inside her home to share “5 Easy Ways to Refresh Your Home for Summer.”

Add Pops of Color

When it comes to a home re-fresh, keep it simple and affordable by using what you already have. For example, dig out your summer serving platters. You likely have some fun and colorful items already in your kitchen. Simply add them to a counter for a refreshing pop of color.

Dig into your pantry and make colorful produce the star of your kitchen. Something as simple as fresh lemons and apples will make your countertop pop.

Look outside for color inspiration. We have a beautiful tree in our front yard, and I love to cut off a few stems to put in vases throughout the house.

I add pops of color throughout the kitchen, such as the area right next to the sink. I added some natural wood elements and pops of green. How cute is that old fashioned soap brush?

Restyle Your Tables

Don’t you just love when everything has turned so lush and green outside? Bring those same elements indoors by dotting your tables with bright green colors and natural decor.

I swapped antique silver candleholders for natural wood designs on our fireplace mantel. I also added green milk glass vases I found at Target.

On our kitchen table, I added a pop of color with a table runner and fresh hydrangea from outside. I also added a floral table runner and fake tulips from the dollar store to the table at the front entryway. Again, I brought the outdoors in by adding a rustic watering can under the entryway table.

Brighten Up the NightLights 1

Christmas lights aren’t just for December, friends! Add them to the patio or fireplace mantel and keep your summer party going all night long. I just love how simple white lights brighten everything up and make a space so inviting and fun!

Lights 4Take Date Night to Your Backyard

As working parents, finding a sitter for date night can be tough; but that doesn’t mean we have to cancel our dinner plans. After the baby is asleep, we like to take date night to the backyard (with the dog nearby and the baby monitor in hand, of course).

Even if you don’t have kids, your backyard is the perfect entertaining spot. Create a backyard picnic for your significant other or all your girlfriends. Throw together a cheese board, grab a bottle of wine, lay down a blanket and enjoy the summer evening!
Cheers!
