Genesee County Bar Association Celebrates Law Day

May 1 is National Law Day, and the Genesee County Bar Association will celebrate with many activities which represent the GCBA’s rich history of contributions and service to the community.

On Friday, April 28, the Law Day Luncheon will be held at the Masonic Temple in Downtown Flint. At the luncheon, Springview Elementary School teacher Aisha Sherwood and Seymour Elementary School teacher Kristen Mignery will be honored with the Golden Apple Award for exemplary work in promoting law-related education. Claire McClinton and Christopher Flores will receive the Liberty Bell Award for their exemplary administration and cause of justice in the community, and Prosecutor David S. Leyton will present the Crime Victims’ Advocate award.

The Law Day Luncheon will honor community members who are active in law education and also engage the community through mock trials and a coloring contest for the kids. From 1-3pm, Genesee County Circuit Court High School Mock Trial teams will argue a case before area judges. The teams have prepared for the case with the help of a teacher and attorney advisors, and each participating school will be recognized at the luncheon. GCBA also sponsors an Annual Law Day Poster Coloring contest to Genesee County students in grades 2-5. Winning posters will be displayed at the GCBA’s Law Day Luncheon, on its website, and on the cover of the March/April issue of its bi-monthly magazine, Bar Beat. All submissions will be displayed May 3-30 at the Flint Public Library (Main Reading Room).
