Dear Readers,

Can you tell we’re ready for football season? Our cover design features the Top 10 greatest players to come from Greater Flint. I was fortunate to be a student at UM Ann Arbor when Rick Leach was MVP of the Rose Bowl in 1976. Check out the other “GOAT” – it’s a great read!

We’re happy to feature the new UM-Flint Chancellor, Debasish Dutta. Read about this esteemed, longtime academic administrator and what his return to Flint and his new position mean to him.

Coming to Flint was exciting for the producers of StoryCorps, a non-profit organization whose mission is to record, preserve and share the stories of Americans from all backgrounds and beliefs. The Flint Institute of Arts hosted the StoryCorps project. Visiting only ten cities each year, they felt that Flint was “a place they needed to be.”

One Flint story of success is that of Big John Steak & Onion. You’ve probably had the sandwich, but you might not know the story behind it (unless you’re hungry).

So many people think there’s nothing cool happening in Flint. In late July, I did one of the coolest things I’ve ever done when I rappelled down the side of The Durant with my daughter, Courtney, to support a great local cause. The Disability Network provides a wrap-up of the event.

Nothing cool happening in Flint? How ‘bout Back to the Bricks? I participated in a couple Tune Up Parties and checked out the action Downtown – a blast, as always, for car nuts like me. And as I write this, Flint is warming up for the HAP Crim Festival of Races – it’s a world-class event! All eyes will be on Flint and you can be sure that MCM will cover the city’s biggest celebration in our next issue. And, I hope to see you at the exciting Ally Challenge at Warwick Hills this month.

We feature the winner of MCM’s “Out of This World Pet Search” – our contests are a lot of fun! On that note, our “Greater Flint’s Best Dressed” contest is underway! Visit mycitymag.com/best-dressed to nominate the stylish people in your life.

Remember, you can always read the digital version of MCM at mycitymag.com.

Thanks for reading!
