Dear Readers,

It’s always exciting to see each issue of our magazine taking shape, the seeds of ideas growing into interesting stories that we truly enjoy sharing with our readers. I’m always proud of the finished product, the quantity and quality of our content.

It’s always fun to highlight Flint’s vibrant arts community and Cultural Center. The Flint Institute of Arts recently opened its expanded facility and galleries to the public – fantastic! And, we have some great photos and comments from Flint School of Performing Arts students about their recent European trip. Such an exciting educational opportunity for those young musicians! The arts are truly alive and continuing to evolve in Flint.

This month, The Salvation Army Flint Citadel Band commemorates their 125th anniversary. They have certainly done a lot for our city and for humanity. Get the details of their celebration plans and read about their rich history on p. 18. In honor of Law Day on May 1, we have a profile of Judge Celeste Bell, the first African American woman to sit on the Genesee County Circuit Court. You’ll enjoy the story of her law career.

We’re never lacking for successful and colorful local people to highlight in MCM. Check out the “My Fun” piece on popular CARS 108 FM morning radio personalities, Pat and AJ. And, we’re celebrating BBQ month with an “Eats” feature on local eateries serving barbecue – sounds pretty good to me right now. As always, we have stories about people succeeding in business, giving back to their community, making music, and much more.

Enjoy this issue and get ready for all the spring and early summer happenings coming up next month. You know where to find stories that entertain and inspire … right here in My City.
