From the Publisher January 2018

Dear Readers,

We’re excited to finally answer the burning question, “who are Greater Flint’s Best Dressed?” Check out the special section featuring the winners and top nominees. This was a lot of fun for our team and we thank all the great people who took the time to participate in the photo shoots.

It’s also exciting to highlight the status of the beautifully renovated Capitol Theatre! MCM was at the recent ribbon-cutting ceremony, and there’s nothing but good things in store for this significant development that will benefit so many people.

We’re featuring the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, and its President/CEO, Isaiah Oliver. He recently received the Art of Achievement Young Professional Award from the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce. Read about this young man who is vested in the forward progress of the community he loves, and passionate about his work with the CFGF.

Another Art of Achievement Award winner is Julie Lopez, Director of Crime Stoppers Flint & Genesee County. The story of how she came to her position is a compelling one, and she is another example of the leadership our community is so fortunate to have.

While MCM is always looking for inspiring, new subject matter, it’s great to look back at the impactful, fascinating and fun stories we’ve done. Our annual “Year in Review” piece always makes me so proud of our publication. If you’re new to My City, our 2017 look back illustrates the quality of the content we’re known for.

We’re well known for shining light on people who give of themselves to help others. Gandhi once said, “The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” Those who are devoted to helping animals will have a special place in heaven, and the people of Los Gatos Foster Animals Cat Rescue are among them (see My Hero). Anyone who knows me knows that I love animals and support charities that benefit our furry friends. My dog, Oscar, comes to the office with me every day, and I believe he’s good for my entire staff … except when he occasionally raids a wastebasket.

Of course, we’ve got Arts, Eats, Music, Sports and so much more. And, our subscribers also received the winter issue of My City Wellness this month, with informative articles by local health care professionals. Enjoy!

I wish you all a safe, happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
