Falling for Fashion!

This season, clothing trends and styles for kids are both basic and unique! For example, grade-schoolers will love graphic tees and jeans with embroidery or patches which can be new and trendy. However, as always, kid’s clothing for this age group needs to withstand quite a bit of wear and tear! With this in mind, we recommend sticking to cotton T-shirts and classic jeans that won’t break the bank when they need to be replaced, especially with the speed at which kids grow out of things.

There’s more to denim than just jeans – shop for overalls to layer over textured and patterned shirts that match your kiddo’s personality, a denim jacket, a soft button-up and of course, a great-fitting pair of pants.

For elementary school girls, cotton dresses – especially those with pockets on either side – make an outfit that is equal parts fun and functional. In the fall, layering is key for both adults and kids and will make your children’s outfits more versatile. Going to the school bus, they might be a little chilly; but once they get into the classroom, they will warm up and can shed a layer. Try adding a long-sleeved shirt under a dress or a vest over a fun T-shirt. And for bottoms, choose tights or leggings to wear underneath a cute skirt or skater dress.

Shopping for tween and teen boys can be … less than easy. Two boys can have very different styles – one loves the preppy style while the other prefers a more casual, athletic wear look. Our advice for teen and tween boys: choose pieces that will work together and mix and match well. Keep it simple and make sure it’s something they feel comfortable in. If they don’t like button-down shirts, look for long-sleeved thermals in different colors. Long-sleeved shirts with cuffs are great for the boys because they can easily push the sleeves up and they stay up!

For tween and teen girls in middle and high school, striking the balance between stylish and school-appropriate can be a challenge. Our picks include a sweet floral sundress, comfy joggers and trendy tops from their favorite brands. Graphic tees, stylish yet versatile joggers and comfy, soft and not-too-cropped tees come in virtually every color, and tanks are textured, too! On trend for fall, ‘90s-inspired jeans, wider legs and bootcut styles are the “new” silhouette.

Lastly, today’s kids have a shoe game that is strong. While every kid needs an everyday pair of sneakers to take them through gym class and be comfortable on field trips, sneakers also convey your child’s sense of style. Do they love color? Splurge on a great pair of Nike® Dunks – available in dozens of colors, they’re great for expressing personality. And since we are talking about fall style, a fab pair of boots – either cowboy boots, zip-ups or pull-ons for girls to wear under mini-skirts and short dresses or over leggings with a great sweater – and for boys, sturdy styles that can take them through the season of dirt bikes, bonfires and hiking!

Ultimately for this season, great jeans, a couple pairs of cool cargo leggings (to hold phones on the go) and a few bright layering tanks or graphic tees, a combo of crewnecks and hoodies will keep kids stylish, classic and cozy for football games, bonfires, hayrides and all things fall!
