The National Chinese Orchestra, Taiwan with the Shintrun Taiwanese Opera Group will perform a FREE show this Sunday (Oct. 6) at the UM-Flint Theatre. The groups will perform “Formosa Roadside Wedding Banquet”- a Taiwanese musical.
The National Chinese Orchestra, Taiwan began in 1984 as the National Taiwan Academy of Arts Experimental Chinese Orchestra. In 2012, it adopted its current name after the establishment of the Ministry of Culture. It strives to use traditional and contemporary music to recount the greatest stories of Taiwan. Since its creation it has served as Taiwan’s cultural ambassador, performing in Europe, Asia and the United States. The orchestra incorporates different elements including drama, painting, dance, poetry and history producing a unique blend of new music with the traditional sound. The Shintrun Taiwanese Opera Group has performed all over the world and is the premier opera group out of Taiwan.
The two groups will perform “Formosa Roadside Wedding Banquet” – musical theatre that celebrates joyous and food-centric Taiwanese wedding rituals.
