Last fall, Hurley Foundation unveiled the new Dr. R. Roderic Abbott Medical Education Center. The Center provides technology enhanced rooms for trainings and conferences within the hospital, enhancing our vision to be “leaders in transforming health through academic and clinical excellence, expanding access to innovative care.”
Comprised of seven different rooms, the renovation was made possible through generous donations from both current and retired medical professionals in our community who see the value in continuing education. All rooms have been sponsored; however, other sponsorship opportunities are available.
Dr. R. Roderic Abbott was known as a selfless oncologist who believed every patient had the right to the best care possible, regardless of their ability to pay. He never took a salary from the hospital and donated any patient payments back to Hurley. Fundraising Committee Chair, Dr. Jitendra P. Katneni says, “Dr. Abbott respected everybody. We learned a lot of things from him, not just medicine, but how to be as a person.” Dr. Margaret Setter-Abbott, wife of the late Dr. Abbott, followed that sentiment, adding, “he truly was selfless in what he did. Everyone was his friend and that meant so much to him.”
Hurley Foundation is proud to continue Dr. R. Roderic Abbott’s legacy of compassion and giving. We welcome donations to the medical education center and will continue to honor donors at a permanent display at the entrance to the center. Donations can be made at hurleyfoundation.org/donate.
