In accordance with the Governor’s recommendations, The Whiting and the Capitol Theatre are suspending all events and performances convening 100 people or more for the next 30 days, through April 11.

Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium are currently open to the public, and will continue to closely monitor the latest developments regarding the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus outbreak via the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). According to a recently released news statement, they have developed a COVID-19 Response Plan that prioritizes the health and safety of both staff and visitors.

On Tuesday, March 10 Mott Community College is asking voters to approve continued bond funding for the college. A continuation of bond funding would allow MCC to pay for building renovations, capital improvements, and critical infrastructure projects.

AS we enter the new ‘20s, Flint is starting to dream again. As the city continues to conquer our latest adversity, citizens are looking forward. What will the future bring for Flint? What will it look like? Where are we headed and how will we get there? Many in the city are optimistic and, for the first time since before the fall of General Motors, the future holds tremendous promise for Flint.

Created in 2002 by Genesee District Library, the Black History Month Brunch is one of Genesee County’s premier events. It provides an opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate the contributions of African Americans to world history. The brunch also inspires residents to reach their full potential and to make a difference in our community, state and nation.

On April 24, the Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce will host the 8th Annual Teddy Bear Ball at Genesys Conference & Banquet Center. According to Chamber President, Jet Kilmer, the event will feature live music, food, fun and a dancing competition to benefit the Genesee County Teddy Bear Patrol.

On Saturday, February 29, the Flint Public Library will have its last day of service before renovations begin at the original location and throw a big party in celebration. The library will open at 9am and close at 6pm. The kick-off party will run from noon-4pm. Admission to the party is free. The library will be closed March 2020 and April 2020 and will reopen in its temporary location at Courtland Center in Burton in May 2020. Renovations are projected to be complete in August of 2021.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women in America. The first Friday of February has been designated by the awareness campaign, Heart Truth, as National Wear Red Day. On this day, men and women are encouraged to wear red to raise awareness of heart disease in women.

Ever since Mr. Whiting and Billy Durant brought Buick to the city in the early 1900s, Flint has been teeming with diversity. People flooded the city from all around the world looking for a better life. One that Flint provided. Diversity is still on the rise in Flint and beyond. Our county holds a wonderful mix if culture, race and individuality, and it should be celebrated.

A united Flint – this is the wish of the city’s newest leader, Mayor Sheldon Neeley. The residents of Flint elected him to the position in November 2019. His pledge to the citizens of Flint was to bring transparency and fiscal responsibility to City Hall and he and his staff are busy working to honor that pledge. Neeley took time out of his busy schedule to chat with MCM.

In January, millions of people around the country honored the work and the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by volunteering and participating in special celebrations and events. The federal holiday is observed on the third Monday of January, which is around King’s birthday, January 15 – he would have been 91 this year.
