Art Deco is an eclectic artistic design style that began in Paris in the 1920s and carried through to the end of the ‘30s. The epitome of glamour and elegance, the style is about rich colors, geometric elements and glimmering details. Inspired by the grand parties of “The Great Gatsby,” the theme incorporates vintage chic, luxury and the glamour of the Roaring ‘20s.
Still a popular wedding theme, the opulent motif can be achieved through use of geometric shapes and ornate fan-inspired motifs, luxurious lighting and sunburst designs, and striking glass and mirrored elements. “If you choose an Art Deco theme, don’t underestimate the impact that small accents can have on your guest’s experience,” says Jamie Carnes, Owner of Special Occasions Event Rental & Design. “Table numbers, menu cards or even a bar menu can create a cohesive design concept throughout your event space, and will look like you thought of every detail.”
Many couples opt to include modern touches to create a unique look. The prevailing color palette for Art Deco-inspired décor is black and gold, but any rich hues can complement the style with embellishments and accents such as bright white, feathers and lush greenery. “When it comes to the world of Gatsby-themed design, don’t be afraid to add a pop of color to make it uniquely yours,” Carnes adds. “Incorporating one accent color will give your guests the feeling you designed something original.”

- Feathers in centerpieces
