The First Day of Fall

It’s finally here! The first day of fall. It’s time to bring out the cozy sweatshirts and sit back and enjoy the crisp cool weather the autumn equinox brings.

How will you be celebrating the first day of fall? Not only can you enjoy a trip to the apple orchard for cider and doughnuts or a nature walk, there are a few fall festivals coming up to celebrate the season.

The Fall Harvest Festival at Applewood Estate is set for this upcoming Saturday. This free family event will host a variety of activities such as cider and apple tasting in the heirloom orchard, animals in the historic barn, music and live performances, drumming workshop by Kuungana African Drum and Dance Co., strolling entertainment by Riley McLincha, interactive farm activities, educational presentations by local organizations and more!

You can also visit Flushing this Saturday for the Flushing Harvest Festival.  This autumn extravaganza showcases all that is fall in Michigan. Scarecrows, created by community members and businesses, line Main Street. Enjoy an apple pie-baking contest, pie-eating contest, a chalk art contest, chili cook off, local entertainment, dance shows, pumpkin painting, arts and crafts and more.

If you want to travel a little further you can visit the Fall Campground Harvest Festival at Bay City State Park in Bay City. The park kicks off their Fall Festival Weekends this Thursday with an ice cream social. Friday is family fun night with bingo and a movie with free popcorn. Festivities continue on Saturday with fun crafts and treats, pumpkin seed spitting, campsite decorating contests and trick-or-treating.

Brighton Harvest Festival is this Saturday on Main Street in Brighton. There is something to do for the entire family! Enjoy games, crafts, face painting, free family photos, apple pie baking contest and more.
