Scarecrows designed by local businesses and nonprofit organizations lined the streets of Downtown Flushing for the Fall Harvest Festival on October 5. Approximately 3,000 people enjoyed some good food at local restaurants and some fall fun at the annual event.

“People travel from all over the state to come to our fall festival!” exclaimed Michelle Yurk, Flushing Chamber of Commerce Membership and Event Coordinator. There were activities for the young and old alike, including pie-eating and pie-baking contests, pony rides and pumpkin painting to name a few. According to Michelle, the Chili Cook-off was a great success this year with six restaurants entering their best recipes. The Beard Contest is always a big hit and trophies were given out for Longest Beard, Best Kept Beard, Best Sideburns, Best Mustache and Most Unusual Beard. Visitors also enjoyed the 25 art and craft vendors who lined the street.

“This festival has seen great growth, and it just keeps getting bigger and better,” says Michelle. The Flushing Chamber of Commerce gives kudos to the event’s main sponsors, Flushing Rotary Club, Delehanty Ford, HAP and Elga Credit union. “We couldn’t do it without our sponsors,” she said.
