Historic Mission Point Resort

At the picturesque, family-oriented Mission Point Resort, you can be pampered in 242 guest rooms and suites and enjoy a variety of dining choices, including the experience of its signature restaurant, Chianti, serving upscale Italian fare with an extensive wine list and one-of-a-kind martini bar. The resort also offers lakefront dining at Bistro on the Greens and for a more casual sports bar feel, Round Island Bar & Grill has an extensive beer selection and lake view bar. Lakeside Marketplace is the resort’s casual counter-service restaurant and is great for grabbing a quick bite or to take a meal outside and enjoy the Lake Huron breezes on the expansive lawn. Guests can also enjoy the resort’s 18-hole greens, a putting green, museum and theater. The resort is proud to partner with Wawashkamo Golf Club, one of Michigan’s most historic golf courses.

Mission Point occupies approximately 21 acres on the southeast side of the island. It looks out toward Round Island over the Straits of Mackinac, the principal waterway between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. In the ‘50s, an evangelical movement began and during that period, a group called the MRA came to Mackinac and soon broke ground on the land where the resort stands today. In the ‘70s, the facility served as a college. Large Norway pine trusses supported the roof and native stone formed the building. One of the island’s most distinctive architectural structures, the Main Lobby resembles a 16-sided tepee which bears out the Indian prophecy stating that “Someday, on the east end of the Island, a great tepee will be erected. All nations will come there and learn about peace.”

Located about a half mile from Main Street, Mission Point may even be home to a ghost or two! The stories told by guests have drawn paranormal enthusiasts to the resort, and it was featured on the SyFy Channel’s popular “Ghost Hunters.” The most famous ghost is believed to have been a student at the college, who reportedly flirts with female guests and plays practical jokes on the men.

Looking for a weekend getaway? Mission Point Resort’s Annual Beer Festival will take place on Saturday, August 1, a perfect way to relax and celebrate a delightful variety of Michigan brews.
