Sweet Summertime at Applewood Estate

Getting Artsy

On the eve of summer, Thursday June 20, Applewood hosted its annual event, “Getting Artsy at Applewood,” a golden afternoon filled with crafts and activities for kids, live entertainment, delicious locally-grown snacks, and of course, the beautiful grounds and flowers that Applewood is known for. The relaxing sound of a local jazz band—called Sound Language—performing in the tea house floated through the evening air as children played games on the back lawn and Bowling Green. Down the hill, volunteers helped the kids make kites with paper, string, and colored streamers, and all and sundry enjoyed the heavenly scent of the blooming rose garden.

On the front lawn, a large tent featured the musical talent of Lydia Seale, Flint’s homegrown contemporary-Christian singer, followed by the engaging Kuungana African Drum and Dance Troupe. The audience enjoyed fresh-picked produce, great music, and the cooling air of dusk.

For those of our readers who have not yet ventured out to Applewood Estate, here is your chance! August 8 is Applewood’s “Goodies from the Garden” event, another opportunity to experience a peaceful afternoon in the garden, activities, locally grown fresh food, and entertainment.
