“I’m Concerned About The Blueberries” Celebrates Students’ Random Acts of Kindness

Hundreds of Blueberry Ambassadors all wearing their “I’m Concerned About The Blueberries” T-shirts as well as parents teachers, principals and superintendents attended the annual awards ceremony today at the Flint Farmers’ Market. The event included the announcement of three awards:

The $1,000 Readers’ Choice Award went to Davison Hill Elementary, after receiving 32,000 votes in an online poll.

The $500 Founder’s Award went to Kearsley student, Stephanie Lane.

The $250 Special Recognition Award went to Genesee Junior and Senior High Schools.

Founded by Flint businessman and philanthropist Phil Shaltz, the offbeat campaign was launched in 2013 with a mystery billboard along I-69. It has since tripled in size and sparked hundreds of random acts of kindness performed by young people throughout Genesee County. Shaltz will also make donations to local schools for their participation.
