A downtown Jewel has been doing its best to serve its faithful customers during the pandemic. Since March 29, the Flint Farmers’ Market has been processing orders for curbside pickup and the customer support has been phenomenal and much appreciated. “We’ve been running since March 29 and we are averaging 130 pickup orders on Thursdays and nearly 150 on Saturdays,” says Flint Farmers’ Market Manager, Karianne Martus. “We’ve had a great response from customers and tons of help from the Square Company that processes payments including a special giveaway from Square to our curbside customers.”

Currently, customers can order goods from such categories as produce, dairy, baked goods, meat & poultry, prepped food and home goods for pickup by going to flintfarmersmarket.com on Wednesdays between 10am and 5pm for a Saturday pickup. Orders can also be placed on Sundays from 10am to 5pm with a Thursday pickup.

According to Martus, the Flint Farmers’ Market is planning a gradual reopening beginning with Tuesdays only starting on June 2 under the current State conditions. If the Tuesday opening goes well, Thursdays are set to be added on June 11. Saturdays will remain curbside pickup ONLY. There are plans to open the outside pavilion on Saturdays. By the end of June, the Flint Farmers’ Market hopes to be open for all three days. Not all, but most, of the vendors will be open for business by that time.

Going forward, the Flint Farmers’ Market hopes to keep the curbside pickup option open for customers as long as it remains possible to do so.

In the future, the Flint Farmers’ Market is launching a Growers Only Market on Tuesdays from 9am-1pm in the outdoor pavilion once standard business practices resume. The Growers Only Market will feature farmers and local producers.
