Storytime at Applewood Estate

Applewood offers weekly storytime for young children.  Join in the fun at these lively readings!  No reservation is required.  Each reading is followed by a hands-on activity connected to the book’s theme from 11:30am-12:30pm.

Saturday Morning Community Yoga

Please join your friends and neighbors for Saturday Yoga at the Ferris Wheel Building. The donation-based community yoga class will meet in the lobby of the Ferris Wheel. If the weather is nice the class will be held outside. This 45-minute class is open to all levels. 8:15-9am.

2nd Annual Community Day 2K18

Community Day 2K18 is a free event for Flint. It will showcase a unified city working together to continue to cultivate positive meaningful relationships with one another. Over 20 organizations, community leaders, elected officials, and the city of Flint are uniting for one cause – uplifting the community with respect and genuine intent while resurrecting its citizens. The day will include: basketball tournament, flag football, bounce houses, arts and crafts, free haircuts, water fight, music showcase, backyard games, food vendors and roundtable panel discussions. There will also be a back-to-school backpack giveaway for the kids and resources for families. From 12-7pm.

Longway Planetarium presents: The Life of Trees

A cheeky ladybug named Dolores and a quirky firefly called Mike take the audience on a fascinating journey into the wondrous world of trees. From the perspective of insects, this film reveals the magic of the microcosm. Zip around a tree with Dolores and Mike and discover its secrets: How do plants get food from the sun? How do they grow? How does water get from the roots to the top of the crown? And, how does all of this make life on earth possible? Recommended for ages 6-10. 4pm.

Crossroads Village: Say Goodbye to Summer

This is the last weekend to enjoy summer activities at Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad. Come stroll the boardwalk one more time and enjoy the peacefulness of the historic village. Take a spin on the Century-old carousel and get a tree-top view from the Superior Wheel. Tour the homes and trade buildings and talk with the interpreters who share their remarkable histories. Take a ride around Mott Lake on the Genesee Bell and enjoy a 40-minute ride through the ever-changing countryside on the Huckleberry Railroad. 10am-5pm

Michigan Renaissance Festival – High Seas Adventure

Take a time-travel adventure into the 16th century where patrons enjoy the sights and sounds of a 17-acre village, complete with building reproductions of Renaissance shops, taverns and a beautiful castle. Continuous entertainment takes place on the streets and on a variety of themed-stages featuring comedy, theater shows and music. Enjoy adult and children games, people-powered rides and full-contact armored jousting tournaments. Also, enjoy fabulous food and browse the Crafter Marketplace where over 300 artisans display their gallery-quality works for sale. Come out and celebrate “High Seas Adventure” this weekend featuring a beard and tattoo competition, knights on bikes, race for the rattle and more.
