This month, we’re here to discuss those in-between fashion collections – pre-spring and resort wear – which we would argue are as important, if not more, in setting the sartorial tone for the season ahead. Consider them appetizers before the main course.
Luckily for us all, the resort 2025 collections have just landed in stores, with prized pieces including (but not limited to) leopard-print, balloon sleeved blouses, great sweaters with interesting details and open necklines for a boho chic vibe – good for daily wear or as kaftans for “beach ready” escapes.
Colors showing up big for 2025 are my personal favorite – YELLOW (with the warmest of yellows trending later in the year), alongside brightened-up ruby or cherry tones that are lighter than the dark, oxblood deep-red tones of fall. Two trends carrying over from last season are the aforementioned leopard and animal prints, and the boho eclectic style. Think billowy sleeves, masterful mixes of cottons, knits, crochet and lace trims for a festive, chic vibe that proves a boho breeze is still wafting through the air.
Let’s also check out 2025 style trends you can wear right now – for snow, sun, and every scenario in between.
SHIFT has everything from shaggy knits and sweaters to sequin fringed skirts for those post-holiday parties that were delayed because December was, well … December! Dressing for the season has never looked chicer or been more fun than 2025!
Early-year resort wear collections were once designed to dress the about-town folk who were neither snowbirds nor ski bunnies this time of year. Today’s collections are more of a grab bag, appealing to everyone from those starting off the New Year at some exclusive destination to everyday fashion enthusiasts looking to spruce up their winter wardrobes ahead of spring. Resort styles also embody the “sporty spices” who head to the slopes for the fleeting ski season, as well as those seeking breezy cover-ups and boho bags for the beach. Resort pieces are also notoriously known for staying on shelves the longest, so think of them as wearable now and well into February before spring collections hit the stores. Plus, if you choose sun & surf over ski, just think of yourself as ahead of the spring/summer style game!
As mentioned, cherry tones are a sweet, tart and chic 2025 trend that will be seen in outfits, make-up and accessories. While we have stood as strong as our cup of java in creamy, dreamy neutrals, shades of browns, lattes and cappuccinos – “Mocha Mousse” is Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2025. The soft brown hue evokes chocolate, coffee and cacao and makes all your fall picks relevant again this year! Shearling and sherpa jackets and accessories are cozy and comfortable and pair well in January with a sweater dress or a turtleneck. Dark Denim is a safe trend that can be paired with other seasonal pieces, including winter florals. A strapless top and dress trend will be huge in 2025, and while not for everyone, look for it on the runways and pair them as a “first layer” under a blazer or open-front jacket. Polished yet playful, 60’s-inspired, ladylike dressing is always in fashion. Feminine suits with sweet necklines, ruffle or lace trimmed “first layers”, little black dresses, skirts of all lengths and minis with a bubble hem, gold buttons, playful hair accessories and great jackets are all in season. So much fun!
Lastly, please use self-care to combat seasonal sadness! Embrace cheerful shades of yellow early this year and ride the trend! Get your body moving outdoors when you can for some fresh air! Great hats and mittens make walking the dog or walking with a friend more bearable and great athleisure pieces are a must in your 2025 wardrobe for a more active you. You will look better and feel better – to start the year off right!
