Diabetes Education Programs
Hurley offers three different Diabetes Education Programs:

All programs work with you to teach you how to manage your diabetes yourself. They teach:
- What diabetes is
- What puts you at risk for getting diabetes
- Blood sugar monitoring
- Diabetes medicines, including insulin pump
- How to stay healthy with diabetes
- What to eat
Help With a Doctor or Insurance
Your doctor needs to order diabetes education. If you don’t have a doctor, Hurley can help you find one. Many insurance companies will cover diabetes education. If you do not have insurance, or if your insurance will not cover diabetes education, Hurley Medical Center will help you get the care and education you need.
Quit Smoking
QUIT classes are appropriate for all types of tobacco use.
- Discover your smoking patterns
- Change your behaviors and learn how to develop healthier lifestyle habits.
- Create a personal quit plan.
- Learn about addiction, and how to break the cycle and live tobacco free.
- Learn about withdrawal symptoms and how to minimize them.
- Discover the different Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) options available to you.

Other Local Resources
The Genesee Community Health Center
The GCHC provides care to anyone in need, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. While GCHC specializes in meeting the needs of the homeless and residents of public housing, services are available to anyone. GCHC’s two locations (Center City: 725 Mason St., Flint and Atherton: 3109 Kleinpell St., Flint) offer general care for adults and children, including substance abuse services, access to labs and well-child visits.
GCHC is a service of Genesee County Health System (GHS) which also offers crisis services, resources for the Flint Water Crisis, mental health services and more. There is a Crisis Texting Line offering counseling services, and the “Mobile Mental Health Unit,” a bus that changes locations around Genesee County to bring services to the community.
