If you’re like me, I instinctively flip through a magazine from back-to-front first; if you do the same, this month’s “Afterthought” should make you want to run down to your favorite ice cream shop for a scoop!

I think we’re all ready for the beauty of Michigan summer and the amazing local happenings coming up – you can bet that My City will be there to capture all the action. Some of the highlights are in our Can’t Miss List, and we also put together a huge Summer Fun Guide starting.

We’ve got lots of photos from the big summer kick-off event – The pARTy: An Artrageous Affair – held at the Flint Institute of Arts. We caught the folks on the cover dancing the night away … what a great party! The early summer fun is officially underway in our My Haps section.

What makes Greater Flint great is the people and their commitment to making a difference. The community members highlighted in this issue are excellent examples of that. The My Outreach piece features two friends of mine – Genesee County Clerk/Register of Deeds, John Gleason and the YWCA CEO, Heidi McAra. They’re joining their resources to help survivors of violent crime, and setting an example for the entire country. We’re also happy to have a profile of venerable Flint newsman, Bill Harris, who graciously shared his story with us. It’s a great read. Be sure to check out the My Downtown, My Arts, My Music and My Sport features, as well – more stories of people who are following their dreams and making it happen right here in Flint.

And there’s so much more! When you’re not out there enjoying the excitement of summertime in Greater Flint, I hope you get some time to kick back with this issue of My City!
