Valley Area Agency on Aging has partnered with Mott Community College Department of Dental Hygiene to provide free oral health cleanings to local seniors in Genesee County and the city of Flint, thanks to $1,500 from Delta Dental Foundation.
According to a statement released by VAAA, dental health cleanings will be performed by second-year Dental Hygiene students at Mott Community College Dental Clinic located at 1401 East Court Street. The students will provide the cleanings under the supervision of licensed dentists and dental hygienists.
“In the AARP community assessment, seniors identified that the water crisis had attributed to gum problems, including loss of teeth,” said Kathryn Boles, President/CEO of VAAA in the statement. “We are very excited about this partnership with Delta Dental Foundation and Mott Community College Department of Dental to be able to provide free dental cleanings to seniors in our community.”
The Delta Dental Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that Michigan children and adults receive high-quality oral health education, as well as high-quality dental care. “We are proud to recognize the work being done by Valley Area Agency on Aging by selecting it as one of our grant recipients,” said Teri Battaglieri, Delta Dental Foundation director. “By increasing access to dental care, we can improve the oral and overall health and well-being of adults by preventing serious health issues down the road.”
