Cooper Villaire of Grand Blanc is a senior at Powers Catholic and a member of the National Honor Society. He enjoys volunteering in the community and has completed more than 85 service hours during his high school career. He volunteers with organizations including his parish, Holy Family, ABC Youth in Flint, the Freshman Annual Picnic, Camp of Champions, Vipers Soccer for special needs and the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. As a student at Powers, he has attended Kiaros, a retreat in Damascus, Ohio, which he said deepened his relationship with the Lord.
What sports are you active with?
I have competed in varsity soccer and track for four years. During my soccer career, I was part of the 2023 Regional Championship team, the 2024 Regional Finalist and District Championship team, and the 2025 SVL Championship team. I earned Academic All-State honors each year, along with 2025 SVL Second Team All-League and All-District honors. In track, I am ranked among the top 10 all-time for Powers Catholic boys pole vault. I also participate in intramural basketball and volleyball and play travel soccer with Nationals Soccer Genesee.
Who’s your favorite teacher and why?
I have several favorite teachers at Powers because they are all standouts, but if I had to pick just one, I would choose Mr. Stravato because he makes class fun while learning. I was also able to create a stronger bond with him because he was my soccer coach.
What types of roles or characters have you played in theater?
I have participated in Seussical Jr., playing the role of the Cat in the Hat, and High School Musical, playing Troy Bolton.
What drives you to try so hard at school?
I have to give my parents a lot of credit for my drive. They have inspired me from a young age to perform at my highest ability and have always supported me in achieving success. They have made sacrifices to send me to Catholic schools as an investment in my education, and I have always strived to perform at my best to honor those sacrifices.
What are your college and career plans?
I have completed one year of dual enrollment at the University of Michigan-Flint and am currently enrolled for my second year. I plan to continue pursuing my bachelor’s degree in business at U-M after I graduate and would like to own my own company.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself graduated from college, excelling in my career and starting my own family. I am hopeful that I will continue to stay in touch with my friends.
What advice would you give incoming freshmen at Powers?
Never be afraid to speak with the staff at Powers; they are always willing to help. Also, try new things, whether it’s a sport, club or extracurricular activity, and go to as many school events as possible. You will create new friendships and lasting memories!
