Celebrating and appreciating Mexican culture, hundreds gathered to enjoy a day filled with festive music and delicious, authentic food at this event hosted by Latinx Technology & Community Center.
Hispanic vendors, food trucks and fun things for the kiddos filled the typically quiet Brush Alley. A sound stage occupied the middle of 1st Street where Saginaw-based Hispanic band Los G Notes entertained the crowd as they enjoyed barbacoa tacos, Argentinian empanadas, Venezuelan arepas and Mexican street corn. Also delighting the attendees were many dancers in beautiful, traditional costumes.
As the event acknowledges the origins of Cinco de Mayo – the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 – it also offers the community a diverse Downtown experience and an opportunity to embrace Latin culture.

Have you viewed pictures from the Hubble Telescope, like the Tapestry of Blazing Starbirth or the Ring Nebula, that light up the darkness with bursts of magnificent color? Have you pondered the quantity of stars—too numerous to count? Have you paused to wonder what it’s all for? What are we to learn or understand from it? Is there purpose in it all? Is there something, or someone, out there?
