The Greater Flint Arts Council organized another Second Friday Artwalk on May 13. Crowds of art-lovers headed Downtown to enjoy music and peruse the diverse works of local artists hosted by venues including Buckham Gallery, Churchill’s Food & Spirits and Soggy Bottom Bar.

On May 19, The Whiting hosted a Season Announcement celebration to highlight the diverse lineup of world-class entertainment for the 2016-2017 season. The presentation was led by Jarrett Haynes, Executive Director, and featured short previews of the various productions. The schedule includes everything from Broadway musicals to comedy shows and dance performances. “Black Violin” will kick off the season in November, featuring the groundbreaking and musically innovative duo of Wil Baptiste and Kev Sylvester. The Vintage in the Village shopping experience took place at Crossroads Village on a chilly May 14. The inaugural event attracted lovers of handmade collector’s items, industrial design, and all things shabby-chic. Treasure hunters from near and far also enjoyed delicious food, skilled trade demonstrations and the quaint charm of the village.

On April 15, Gloria’s Ltd. Fine Stationery & Gifts closed its doors. At the close of the final business day, owner Gloria VanDuyne was feted with a champagne reception. The swanky, surprise event was attended by her husband, Erick, long-time staff members and many close friends. Gloria’s began as a small stationery business 43 years ago, and after inhabiting a few other locations, ended up in the Genesee Valley Center. Known for its unique and exclusive mix of jewelry, home accents, fashion and accessories, the boutique was loved by a loyal clientele, both local and from all over mid-Michigan.
