Mother Nature rained on the parade, but she didn’t stop Flint residents from gathering to participate in the nationally-celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. The Downtown event featured live music and performances, dancing, rappers, food, vendors and more.

The annual summer FUNdraiser included a cocktail reception, dinner, silent and live auctions and a deejay. Proceeds support the many quality learning opportunities the Museum offers to community children.

Flint Community Players celebrated 90 years of bringing exciting live theater to the Flint and Genesee County area. Gala attendees enjoyed cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and entertainment. Live mannequins were dressed in many of the costumes from the legendary FCP costume collection.

Co-hosted by Crim Fitness Foundation, Recycle Bike Shop, Social Cycling Flint and Flint River Watershed Coalition, this fundraiser celebrated Flint’s growing biking community. With participants from beginners to enthusiasts, the event offered a 2-3 mile, 10-mile and 20-mile course highlighting some of the best and most interesting parts of Flint. All routes started in front of GM’s historic Factory One, and the afternoon ended with a great party. Proceeds will help create a more walkable and bikeable community through education, infrastructure and policy change.

Presented annually by the Friends of Modern Art (FOMA) on the second weekend in June, this two-day event attracts thousands of visitors to the grounds of the FIA in the heart of the beautiful Flint Cultural Center. As many as 175 established and emerging artists from Michigan and beyond display original works in various genres including ceramics, glass, painting, jewelry, fiber, metal, mixed media, photography, printmaking, sculpture and wood.

More than 100 people gathered to watch 12 racers compete in the first All American Soap Box Derby in Flint in nearly 25 years. The exciting, day-long community event was held on North Chevrolet Avenue at Chevy Commons. Taking the championship was Grand Blanc East Middle School eighth-grader, Chase McCallum (at right). He qualified to compete at the 82nd annual First Energy All-American Soap Box Derby Race Week, scheduled for July 14-20 in Akron, OH.

Flint’s event season kicks off with this annual “art-rageous” affair. Attendees enjoyed cutting-edge cuisine – including hors d’ oeuvres and desserts served by robots – before dancing the night away. Funds raised cover bus transportation and art materials for elementary and secondary students participating in FIA education programs.

This annual event benefits the programs of The Flint Institute of Music: Flint Symphony Orchestra, Flint School of Performing Arts and Flint Repertory Theatre. The evening included cocktails and appetizers, silent and live auctions, dinner, live music by FSO musicians and a dance performance by FSPA students.

The Flint area’s longest-running lip sync review returned for its 13th year with performances by a host of local celebrities, community members and MCC staffers, lip-syncing to music from Motown and other record companies. ELGA Credit Union was the title sponsor, with all proceeds assisting students with their academic goals at MCC.
