A female friend of mine recently asked me, “Do you know what season it is?”
First of all, when did I become the kind of person who follows sheep-like the bumbling visitors on a tour around a city? Well, when I first went to Mexico, I suppose. The taco truck tour was epic and worth every penny and mouthful. And then, of course, wine tours are lovely, because … wine. And the last time we traveled to New Orleans, the historical ghost tour was informative and interesting and just the right amount of creepy (and the tour guide stopped often so that we could refresh our libations). And so, a food tour on another return visit to NOLA seemed like a good idea. It had received high marks online; my husband and I supposed we could try food from restaurants we hadn’t gotten around to yet, and learn a little more about the culinary culture of Crescent City at the same time.
As a result of this year’s market volatility and the unexpected news of Great Britain leaving the Eurozone, I’ve recently been approached by multiple people regarding the merits of having gold or goldminers as a part of their investment portfolio. I will make this very clear: the answer to this question is very situational and depends drastically on each individual’s goals, risk tolerance and time horizon. I would like to make a few simple observances regarding this decision.
A new puppy! They are pretty irresistible – they have that puppy breath, which is why thousands of people visit animal shelters every day, and leave with a brand new, cuddly best buddy. There is no sweeter happy ending.
Over the last 50 years, General Motors lost more than half of its market share. The rank-and-file workers aren’t to blame for this. Instead, they were let down by their leadership.
As a father of two very active daughters ages 12 and 10, I’m always looking for things to keep my family engaged while trying to fully experience Genesee County. We are very fortunate to have so many unique local attractions, many of which are provided at no or little cost to the community and offer families opportunities for healthy experiences. At this point in the summer, most people have overextended their budgets with vacation costs. As well, they may have forked over a pile of money getting the kids ready to go back to school. I wanted to list a handful of local end-of-summer activities that are both rewarding and easy on the budget.
It’s good to have friends. Well-connected friends? Even better!
In the matter of a month, Baton Rouge, LA – the place where I grew up – went from a city divided, to a city, quite literally, under water.
The Flint Firebirds Club is the oldest and largest club at Kettering University, and is still active today. The club is for Kettering students who are car enthusiasts and enjoy all things motor-related. This photo of Club members is from circa 1950s – 1960s.
In 2014, the Obama Administration announced plans to reinstate diplomatic relations with Cuba. President Obama then visited to Cuba in March 2016, which was the first visit of an American president to the island nation since Calvin Coolidge did so in 1928. The normalization of diplomatic relations and presidential visit come at a time when Raul Castro, the president of Cuba, is looking to liberalize the country’s stagnant economy.
For those of you who are, don’t you just love being a grandparent? From the first moment you hold that little bundle of joy in your arms, you’re in love. National Grandparents Day is observed this year on September 11, and as a grandma to five – ranging from three months to 14 years old – I have many happy memories. Brennan, Mack, Gianna, Noah and Elijah have all brought my life much richness.
Few things are more beautiful than fall in Michigan, and I’m sure many of you share my excitement about wearing scarves, jackets, and hats before the frigid months ahead. Here are some fall trends to take you through the season and beyond.
