I know many adults are struggling to understand why teenagers across the country have been chewing on laundry detergent pods.

The time is here for flowers to bloom and nails to sparkle with brand new pastel colors for spring!

I am a bird watcher. Never in a million years would I have thought I would be a bird watcher because when I was a kid, I watched Alfred Hitchcock’s suspense thriller, The Birds, and it terrified me! It’s the story of a series of sudden, unexplained and violent attacks by birds on the people of Bodega Bay, California. Things start going a little crazy when seagulls attack kids at a party, and before long, the whole town is under attack, with birds nearly breaking through barricaded doors and windows! I can’t believe my parents let me watch it! They probably wouldn’t had they known how scary it was. For days, I couldn’t walk outside without looking nervously to the sky.

Maybe you looked at the title of this article and thought, “thank you, Captain Obvious.”

Great art is supposed to make you think hard and often feel uncomfortable doing it. Such is the case with The Square, a dark comedy from Sweden in which A Night at the Museum meets Curb Your Enthusiasm – with squirm-inducing results.

At The Local Grocer, we’re all about eating seasonally, so let’s welcome spring back with a dish that started in China as a seasonal snack. Traditionally eaten on the first day of spring, spring rolls were a thin pancake topped with lots of vegetables. Eventually, the springtime pancake evolved into a roll, making it easier to eat. Over the years, the taste has remained similar, but the preparation took on new elements and spices, and now, these vernal rolled pastries are known all over the world.

Tuesday April 17,2018: the last day that we can file our income taxes on our 2017 individual earnings. That is, of course, without filing an extension. We also have from now until that day to make our contributions into an Individual Retirement Account. Many are asking whether the new tax law is going to affect what type of retirement account they should be using. In short, it is very much dependent upon the individual’s situation and goals; but, it is also a function of their household income level and whether they are being covered by an employer-sponsored qualified plan.

“The Bachelor” is on again, which is wonderful. No, I don’t “like” the show. I’m a guy. If I liked the show, I’d have to turn in my Man Card. But I do really like messing with the lovely yet formidable Marcia, a lifelong feminist who, oddly enough, positively loves the show.

In my mind, a cross-country road trip always sounded glamorous and exciting. Sites to visit, canyons to peer across, large bodies of sparkling water to ponder. Deserts, roadside diners, singing at the top of your lungs to a road trip playlist. This is the way road trips are portrayed not only in movies, but also in many travel blogs and travel magazines. Memories made, new perspectives discovered, glimpses into the interior of the great United States.

Spring is in the air! Well, maybe, not really. But it sure beats the brutal cold and snow that hung around here for the last few months. Just the promise of warmer weather has helped me beat the Winter Blues. And, there is so much to look forward to: like Daylight Saving Time, which begins on March 11, giving us a little more “daytime” to enjoy.

What’s the worst motion picture of all time? Well, as I have acquired the ability to walk into my backyard – right now – and aim my smartphone wherever I’d like, the distinction is fluid and the possibilities are endless.
