The sensation of culture shock, by definition, is a feeling of disorientation a person may feel when experiencing an unfamiliar social environment. Communities First, Inc. of Flint enhances that definition by provoking, stimulating, and inspiring new perspectives within community families through this nationally recognized program. Culture Shock provides families with the opportunity to experience different aspects of local culture, with pop-up performances, workshops, and other events.
Flint & Genesee shoppers are encouraged to start the holiday shopping season by patronizing some of the region’s small businesses on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 28. From food to fashion, there are a variety of shops and businesses from which to choose.
Genesys Health Foundation, in partnership with the Holly community, will host the first Tree of Love event Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 6 pm in the atrium of Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc Township. The evening will include music from the Holly Dickens Music Festival, a brief program, more entertainment from the Holly Dickens characters, and refreshments.
On Friday, November 27, Crossroads Village will become a winter wonderland for the next month. Villagers are preparing for the fast approaching holiday season. The Villagers, the Village homes and shops will all be transformed to create a magical experience. The Colwell Opera House will present live entertainment, children can visit Santa Claus, model trains and craft demonstrations will be on display and there will, of course, be holiday music and shopping opportunities for all. Brave the cold and come visit the Village!
The 4th Annual Vehicle City Fashion Week has included a Creative Meetup, a Workshop and a Fashion & Style Brunch, and will culminate in a Runway & Trunk Show on Friday, November 20. This year, the show has moved to an all new location: Signature Chophouse in Flushing. For $30 ($40 VIP), guests can enjoy a remarkable runway fashion show, a red-carpet pre-party, a gift bag and tasty food. The event will be hosted by celebrity stylist, GooGoo Atkins.
Flint – Mannheim Steamroller will present their internationally acclaimed holiday concert at The Whiting on Tuesday, December 15 at 7:30 p.m.
If you want to sample some of Michigan’s best in food, beer and wine, the Flint Farmers’ Market is the place to be this Saturday, November 7, from 6-10 pm. The strolling indoor event will be in a setting similar to a park with live music and lawn games (including Giant Jenga and Corn Hole) to be enjoyed by all.
The 10th Annual First Frost Arts & Fine Crafts Fair moves into town this weekend, November 7-8. Ticket prices start at $5 for general admission and $4 for seniors 62 and older. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
It’s almost that time of year again when we reach out to the Grand Blanc community and ask for your support to help those less fortunate and stock our Pantry. To do this, FISH holds a “Feed the Bus” event in hopes of filling a school bus with non-perishable food items, paper and hygiene products as well as laundry/cleaning items. The big yellow school bus will be located in the Grand Blanc High School Parking lot on Saturday, November 21st from 9 am to 3 pm. Simply stop by with your items during those hours.
Local 432 has been providing area youth with a substance-free music performance venue for 30 years and celebrated three decades of music and art with concerts and a Food Fest during a gala weekend in October. Held at the Flint Farmers’ Market, the event offered ten tasting stations featuring fabulous food prepared by five local chefs and five famous chefs from around the country. About 350 people turned out, and it was also declared “Local 432 Day” by Flint Mayor Dayne Walling.
