Love Your Melon is a nationwide organization that has found a place here in Flint. Dedicated to improving the lives of children with cancer, the simple idea of donating and selling beanies allows both the givers and receivers to smile big.
Pedorthics is the management and treatment of conditions of the foot and ankle that requires fitting, making and modifying footwear, sole inserts, and arch supports. The treatment implements special footwear to help those who have painful or disabling conditions caused by disease, congenital defect, or injury.

Next month, the Flint Institute of Arts will begin construction on the Contemporary Craft Wing and artist’s makerspace as part of a significant museum expansion and renovation of its Art School. The completion is scheduled for autumn of 2017.
On June 4, nearly 1,500 people gathered at Kearsley Park for the Ryan Bellows Bluegrass Bazaar for Bluegrass music, dancing, children’s activities, vendors, games and more. This year’s event included 9 bands, and the first Bluegrass Fun Run. The community focused, free festival was established in 2014 by Ryan Bellows, who passed away that year. Once again, the Flint DDA coordinated flower-planting in the pots along Saginaw Street area to brighten up your Downtown Flint! Many hands made short work of the annual beautification project held on the morning of Saturday, June 4.
Vehicle City Fest, a three day music and art benefit event in Downtown Flint, was organized to help children affected by lead poisoning during the Flint Water Crisis. The musical festivities lasted from Friday, June 3 to Sunday, June 5, and took place at a variety of venues, including Local 432, Churchill’s, The Loft, and The Lunch Studio. Proceeds from Vehicle City Fest were donated to the Flint Child Health and Development Fund, established by the Community Foundation of Greater Flint. Rhythm, beauty and chaos are words often used to describe the music of Flint’s very own rock band, The Tom Toms. Lead Vocalist Kayla Day and her husband Chris Day, Lead Guitarist/Vocalist, started writing songs and playing music and singing together while in high school. They not only shared their love of music, they were a couple throughout high school, and married in 2011.
One of Flint’s automotive pioneers, Charles Stewart Mott was an original partner of General Motors, which was founded in Flint in 1908. Mott created his Foundation in 1926 to respond to the increasing needs of Flint’s growing population.
