This spring, the Greater Flint community was invited to view the works of local art students at two special exhibitions hosted annually by the Greater Flint Arts Council.

1. When you were a kid, what did you want to grow up to be?

If the success of a vibrant community depends in part on the availability of arts and culture, then the City of Flint is a haven for artistic pursuits and public appreciation and enjoyment. In addition to the Flint Cultural Center, which includes the Flint Institute of Arts, Flint Institute of Music, Sloan Museum of Discovery and Longway Planetarium to name a few, Downtown is also home to the Buckham Fine Arts Project.

On July 2, 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed into law what many may think is the greatest legislation of all time: designating July as National Ice Cream Month, and the third Sunday of July as National Ice Cream Day.

The vehicle featured on the Back to the Bricks 20th Anniversary Main Event logo is owned by Flint residents and longtime car enthusiasts, Bob and Jill Ayre. Both extremely active with the organization, the couple has attended and worked on every Promo Tour and helped at almost all the other events, including Dust ‘Em Off, Tune-Up Week and Main Event week. Bob even helped kick off “Hot Rod High” back in the day, a highly successful Back to the Bricks project we hope to bring back someday. To honor and thank this dedicated couple for all their hard work, their little red truck – named Phyllis – was chosen to adorn the logo for the 20th Anniversary Main Event!

It’s been three years in the making! Communities First, Inc. (CFI) reached its funding goal for Foodie Commons, which is located in Flint at the former Anthony’s Flower Shop and parking lot.

Under sunny skies dotted with a few clouds not far from the Atlantic Ocean, an array of emotions began flooding over Kamryn Johnston on the morning of May 21.

As the 2023-2024 high school athletics schedules wrapped up for the year, we invited the 25 Genesee County high schools to choose two athletes – one each from their men’s and women’s sports teams – who excelled in both athletics and academics. The responding schools took care in selecting young people who worked hard throughout their high school careers to earn accolades for their accomplishments. We thank them all for their participation.
