During the renovation of the historic courthouse building, Barbara Menear, Court Administrator of the Genesee County Courthouse, and Deputy Court Administrator, Janet Patsy, put in hours and hours of hard work. They also wrote a commemorative publication about the history of the courthouse, the addition, restorative efforts undertaken, and the many people who were so dedicated to the project.

It’s that time of year again! Training groups are working hard to prepare for Flint’s premier event, the HAP Crim Festival of Races, which is in its 41st year and will take place August 25-26. And, according to Race Director Andy Younger, it is, once again, on track to nearly reach the historic number of participants from last year – an anniversary year – with about 15,000 runners expected to hit the bricks of Saginaw Street. “We’re pretty excited about it,” he says.

There are some people out there who think the Clio Amphitheater is closed – and that simply isn’t true. The slogan of the facility is “to provide quality family entertainment at an affordable price” and that is exactly what they’ve delivered with its popular tribute band concerts on Tuesday evenings during the summer months.

Flint native, Connor Coyne, is a literary enthusiast.

It’s often been said that a good pilot is always learning. That philosophy certainly applies to Joe Taylor, Flight Instructor with the Greater Flint Pilots Association (GFPA). Members of the GFPA own equity shares in four single-engine airplanes, which are housed at Bishop International Airport. Members use the planes for personal flights and for instruction.

On July 26, more than 300 local teens participated in what has become, in its fourth year, “the largest cleanup in the city,” according to the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce.

The 61st Greater Flint Olympian and CANUSA Games kicked off on July 11 with official Opening Ceremonies at Northwestern High School’s Guy V. Houston Stadium. All Flint and Genesee County residents were invited to attend the festivities which began with a Physical Fitness Walk at 9:30am, followed by an official opening of the Games, a break for lunch, and an Olympian Games Field Day and Olympian Sports Skills event.

According to many of its regular and longtime customers, it’s the place to go for good conversation, a cold beer and some fresh, hearty pub fare. Known years ago as the Golden Coin, the neighborhood bar was purchased in 2006 by Churchill ‘s restaurant owners Johnny Saites and his cousins Taso, John and Bill Gravanis. And why is the place such a favorite? “We do something different,” Johnny explains.

For nearly 50 years, Bill Harris has been a familiar face in the field of broadcast news and has been a news producer/reporter/anchor in Flint since September, 1977. Now anchoring the 10pm news with WSMH FOX66, he has not only gained the respect and admiration of his co-workers over the years, but also a large following of TV viewers who respect his trustworthy reporting. Bill sat down with My City Magazine to chat about his many years in the news business.
