Back to the Bricks is a premier event in Greater Flint that attracts thousands of visitors every year. The five-day main event kicked off on August 14 with “Bricks Flicks,” a family-oriented party at the nostalgic US-23 Drive-In Theatre in Flint. This year’s movie was “Tucker: The Man and His Dream.” During the main event week, thousands of spectators lined Saginaw Street for rolling cruises from Downtown Flint to Grand Blanc. The main event also featured a car show, concert, dance party with a Motown theme and much more. In the week prior to the main event, Tune Up Parties were held in Davison, Clio, Linden, Fenton, Flushing, Mt. Morris and Beecher.

When the Firebirds Hockey Club arrived in Flint in 2015, it was said time and time again: these players will be the next stars of the National Hockey League (NHL). Following the NHL Draft last June, there’s a lot of evidence that it’s true … the players we are watching right here in Flint today are the next stars of the NHL.

Any women’s basketball standout from Southeast Michigan, concluding an accomplished college career, should not be surprised if Dreyon Wynn reaches out to them. Wynn, President and General Manager of the Flint Monarchs bills himself as an “encyclopedia of women’s basketball.” That knowledge, combined with uncanny people skills, passion for the game and the ability to create a welcoming environment, has allowed Wynn to put together rosters overflowing with talent since taking over the only professional women’s basketball team in the city’s history, in 2011.

Career advancement and earning a lot of money are not everyone’s ideas of an accomplished life. For Bishop Gregory John Mansour, the head of the Eparchy of Saint Maron of Brooklyn and Flint native, living his faith and loving Jesus are his measures of success.

The Hispanic Technology & Community Center of Greater Flint (HTCC) is a community service and educational agency established with the purpose of securing equal opportunities for Hispanics and other minority individuals, as well as the local community. Asa Zuccaro has been the director of HTCC since March 2018. The bi-lingual director was born and raised on Flint’s eastside and is very aware of the problems faced by the Latino community. He brings with him a lot of enthusiasm and excitement about the future. “There is no other position I would ever want to have,” he says.

It was a sad day for golf lovers when they learned that 2009 was the last year for the beloved Buick Open. Well, just eight years later, professional golf is back at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc and the excitement is mounting. The Ally Challenge Presented by McLaren is set for September 14-16, with pre-tournament events starting Sept. 10. According to its web site, “the Ally Challenge is an official event on the PGA TOUR Champions owned and operated by Tournaments for Charity, a Michigan nonprofit corporation. This 54-hole stroke play golf tournament features 78 PGA TOUR Champions professionals competing for a $2 million purse.”

FYT-Flint Repertory Theatre LOGO_FINAL_BlackSince 1957, Flint Youth Theatre (FYT) has been a source of pride for the city and its residents. Located at the heart of the Cultural Center, FYT is Flint’s only professional theatre and the only professional youth theatre in Michigan. The drama school, serving children in grades 2-12, is second to none. Its workshops are informative and always welcomed – its productions fantastic. FYT is a perfect fit for the city and its youth, and it is now becoming more. The face and mission of FYT is growing and it was for this reason that I recently ventured there to talk with its young, Producing Artistic Director, Michael Lluberes.
