Stroke happens when there is an interruption of blood supply to the brain. It is also an issue that is close to my heart. My father and hero, Dr. Uma Nandi, was a wonderful man – a brilliant polymer chemist, cook, singer, husband, father and grandfather. He was a true renaissance man. Ten years ago, he suffered a devastating stroke that changed his life and shook our entire family. I’ve made it my mission to educate our planet about strokes. Recognizing the signs of a stroke is crucial in order to get medical help and appropriate treatment as soon as possible. Let’s discuss stroke and its major symptoms.
We live in a world where we are more active than ever before and with increased activity, we see an increase in injuries. It seems that the medical field, in general, is so quick to jump to two main solutions: surgery and/or medication. Xanax is a brand name for the drug, alprazolam, which belongs to a group of drugs called benzodiazepines, which act on the brain and nerves (central nervous system) to produce a calming effect. The minor tranquilizer is used to treat anxiety and panic disorders, and according to medicalnewstoday.com is the single most prescribed psychiatric medication in the United States. Lately, there has been some controversy over the use of Xanax and concerns about the addictive nature of the drug that has been referred to by some people as a “six pack in a pill.”
In 2017, there were over five million Americans living with this degenerative disease and it is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States.
