The highly-popular African American Film Series presented by Communities First begins tomorrow at the Flint Institute of Arts. At 5:30pm will be the first showing of “Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am”. The movie is an intimate look into the life of the legendary author, from her childhood through her later years. The film includes discussions of her acclaimed works including “Sula,” “Song of Solomon” and “The Bluest Eye.” Before the movie an opening reception will take place featuring great food and live entertainment by High Definition.
This Friday, November 15 at the Northbank Center Ballroom the UM-Flint Indian Student Association will host a Diwali celebration. The party is a free event and takes place from 6-9pm. The celebration features cultural performances, dancing and food. Students from different states will attend to celebrate with unique music and dance with all of the performances culminating in a “grand Bollywood dance.” The floor will then open with Bollywood music.

And the best part of the Happy Meal and the delight of many children, was the toy that was found inside the box. To celebrate this iconic occasion, McDonald’s is launching the Surprise Happy Meal, featuring some of the popular Happy Meal toys from the last four decades. The Limited-Edition Surprise Happy Meal will feature Iconic throwback toys from the past 40 years.
For all the animal lovers out there, this weekend the Genesee Valley Mall will host FARE – Foundation for Animal Rescue & Education. In their amazing, indoor, educational event, attendees will meet over 30 live animals including a sloth, porcupine, armadillo, ferrets, bunnies, opossum, snakes, tarantulas, tortoises, lizards, frogs and many more! This event also includes fun and unique, hands-on animal educational programs that rotate every 45 minutes. The educational programs teach attendees about reptiles & invertebrates in one session and mammals in another. Some feature animals only come out during the educational presentations so you’ll want to be in attendance for both!

This Wednesday, October 30 Genesee County is in for a holiday treat. The classic silent film, “Nosferatu”, will be screened at the Flint Institute of Music in MacArthur Hall. Music for the film will be performed by Andrew Roger of the Flint Organ Club!
