The Flint Farmers’ Market is prepared to welcome customers back inside. Beginning Tuesday, June 9, the market will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-3pm (in July this will extend to 5pm) and Saturdays 9am-5pm. About 75% of the vendors will be opening all three days. All open vendors will have CDC guidelines in place. Additional vendors are planning to open by July. The inside of the market closed to the public on March 28 due to the Corona virus outbreak.

On Saturday, June 6, the My People Flint Empowerment Walk will take place starting at 10:00am in Downtown Flint at the flat lot. The walk will take place as an effort to unite and empower our community. State Representative Cynthia Neeley (D-Flint) will be participating.

The National Cemetery Administration (NCA) is committed to observing Memorial Day 2020 in a manner that honors those who sacrificed for our Nation while protecting the health and safety of visitors and team members. All 142 VA national cemeteries, including Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, will be open for visitation throughout the Memorial Day weekend. Families and friends are welcome to place flowers or individual flags at Veterans’ gravesites. Cemetery visitors are asked to adhere to CDC, state and local health and safety guidelines and local travel restrictions.

A downtown Jewel has been doing its best to serve its faithful customers during the pandemic. Since March 29, the Flint Farmers’ Market has been processing orders for curbside pickup and the customer support has been phenomenal and much appreciated. “We’ve been running since March 29 and we are averaging 130 pickup orders on Thursdays and nearly 150 on Saturdays,” says Flint Farmers’ Market Manager, Karianne Martus. “We’ve had a great response from customers and tons of help from the Square Company that processes payments including a special giveaway from Square to our curbside customers.”

For 57 years, Gaines Jewelry, located at G-3310 Beecher Rd. in Flint, has provided honest customer service and dazzling jewelry. They are one of the area’s only full-service jewelers, offering jewelry and clock repair, as well as sales. They recently opened shop during the current quarantine offering curbside service and repair.

Natural Stress Solutions is a hemp-based CBD company dedicated to using cannabinoids to help people find relief without the use of harmful prescription drugs, according to Owner Eric Jenkins. While the doors are temporarily closed due to the pandemic, Natural Stress Solutions offers online service with free shipping and is open for curb-side service on Mondays and Fridays at 4-5pm, and is also available by appointment. Restart Flint & Genesee is a special recovery program by the Flint & Genesee Chamber designed to help small business in Genesee County that has suffered distress due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially established with a $200,000 grant from the Consumers Energy Foundation, the program was recently bolstered by an additional $262,500 grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation to support African American businesses in Flint. The program will award grants of up to $5000 to cover expenses associated with reopening to qualified businesses under guidelines and requirements for social distancing and safety.
