Happy New Year!
I truly hope all of you were able to celebrate the New Year doing exactly what you wanted to be doing. While some people I know enjoy big parties and others prefer to stay home and toast the New Year while watching the televised celebrations, there are also those who treat it like any other day and go to bed at their normal time.
This year began with a cruise for me—my husband and I vacationed with some of our close friends. My husband and I spent New Year’s Eve on the road, driving to the port to avoid the high cost of flights and potential delays. We love cruising the Caribbean and try to go as often as time and budget allow.
This issue of My City Magazine features several articles dedicated to “A New You,” focusing on taking better care of ourselves—whether that means eating healthier, trying whole foods, continuing or starting a fitness program, stepping away from social media, traveling, or connecting more with loved ones. Dr. Shan Jackson offers valuable tips for better gut health along with several food suggestions. My City writer Keegan Deloney’s story on everything you need to know to travel in 2026 includes a wealth of information provided by Superior Travel.
A new special section we are very excited about is Ten to Toast, which highlights 10 successful men and women in the Greater Flint area who are making a positive impact on their businesses and the community. Be sure to check out our ten toast-worthy individuals inside this issue.
Since it’s January, many of you may be hitting the slopes for skiing and snowboarding. You won’t want to miss My City writer Mark Spezia’s in-depth story on Mt. Holly and the local schools and programs that use the local ski resort for training and competing. I had no idea that Mt. Holly Ski Resort has been in operation for 70 years!
Music enthusiasts will also want to read Gary Fisher’s feature, When Flint Was a Music Capital. Were you aware that the Flint area has hosted many of the biggest music acts of the last 100 years? If you’re old enough and from the Flint area, you might even remember many of the concerts he writes about.
A new year always holds so much promise. On behalf of everyone at My City, may your wishes, dreams, and goals keep you focused on a successful and prosperous year.
