Dear Readers,
It looks like we may not have a “summer reprieve” like we did last year, but what a great summer it was! I’m ready to embrace everything that’s great about Michigan in the fall.
As the seasons roll on, so does the revitalization of Downtown Flint. UM-Flint’s William R. Murchie Science Center is undergoing a fantastic expansion project. Going forward, the growth of our universities and new educational opportunities will play a major role in Flint’s recovery and future. So exciting!
On a smaller scale, but no less important, the Flint BRAND Program offered by Genesee County Habitat for Humanity is highlighted in our “My Outreach” article. They’re dedicated to improving Flint, one neighborhood at a time, and it’s a great thing to see.
Also featured is Cline, Cline & Griffin, P.C. – a law firm that has called Downtown home and served the community for 90 years. And, we have a historical piece on the closing of Northwestern High School, a Flint institution with a legacy of great athletes and endurance through tough times.
Of course, we’ve got the usual highlights: Arts, Sports, Fun, and the reader-favorite “My Eats” profiling the unique dining concept at Black Rock Bar & Grill in Davison – we’re seeing more restaurants moving to Greater Flint. Black Rock is a multiple MCM City’s Choice Award winner, and this layout will definitely make you hungry for a great steak.
Speaking of winners: professional golf returned to Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in September. I attended the Ally Challenge and it was exciting to see people enjoying the inaugural event. Looking forward to next year! There were so many other happenings during the final weeks of summer.
We’re featuring our “Wedding Moments” section this month – trends and expert tips with a local flavor. And the flavors of the season are captured in a “My Day” feature on Spicer Orchards … put it on your fall to-do list.
I believe most Michiganders look forward to fall, with football and the colors changing – let’s all make it a point to get outside and enjoy the transformation.
