New Downtown Event Cinco Nuevo

A new celebration is coming to Downtown Flint! The Flint Public Art Project is hosting Cinco Nuevo, a free, all-ages event that will not only celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but also the growth of Downtown Flint.

Cinco de Mayo celebrates the day the Mexican Army defeated the French forces at the battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. According to Event Coordinator David Aguilar Hall, Cinco Nuevo will celebrate the Mexican American Culture – past, present and future.

The free event will be held at the Flat Lot at Saginaw and First Streets on Saturday May 6, from 12 to 8pm, offering something for everyone. Free activities include:  Best Taco in Town Competition, Live Art by local Mexican American artists, live screen-printing and live 3D printing, kids’ button-making, live boot-making class, interactive kids activities, tortilla making, Mexican Bingo and a piñata.

Food and vendor goods will be available for purchase, including taco plates, raspas, corn in a cup, fruit cups, Frito pie, soda, beer, water and Mexican American trinkets. All post-expense proceeds will be used to fund the Bruno Valdez Music and Arts Scholarship at Mott Community College. Organizations that would like to participate can contact the event coordinator at daguilarhall@yahoo.com or 210.324.1596.
