In May, Jeremy celebrated 30 years in radio, having started his broadcasting career as a teen running talk shows on an AM station here in Vehicle City. After moving to Evansville, IN in the late ‘90s and enjoying a very successful programming job there, Jeremy returned to Flint in 2003 and has since been heard on the air at almost every station in town. Since 2016, he has been an integral member of the broadcast and management teams at 103.9 The Fox, a multiple City’s Choice winner for “Favorite Radio Station.”
Jeremy’s loyal listeners tune in for “Fenech on The Fox” weekday afternoons and he regularly entertains crowds at many local and charity events. But there’s much more to this City’s Choice Award Winner … read on!
1. What’s something people would never guess about you?
Most people are surprised to learn that I’m quite shy and have been since grade school. But when I can hide behind a character on the radio or on stage and I can be someone else, I thrive. When I’m playing a character on the air who is a version of myself who’s not afraid to make a fool of himself, it’s much easier being in the spotlight.
2. Where is the coolest place you’ve traveled?
I would say either Garden of the Gods in Illinois or snorkeling off the Mexican coast. Garden of the Gods is simply breathtaking and literally in the middle of nowhere. The rock formations are beautiful and the views are just stunning! My wife and I took a cruise for our anniversary and went snorkeling in Mexico. The water was so clear and the fish were so colorful. But experiencing both of those places with my wife and best friend Erika made them that much more special.
I love experiencing things that the everyday listener doesn’t generally have access to, then reporting back from the listeners’ point of view.
3. What is your favorite family tradition?
When I was a kid, my family would go camping at Sleeper State Park near Caseville every summer. Recently, it’s become a tradition for me and my family to venture up to the tip of The Thumb for the annual Cheeseburger in Caseville Festival! It’s great to spend the day with my wife and kids while broadcasting from the festival and driving the FOX Truck in the parade with Johnny Burke, Steph Barber and “Sly the Fox” riding in the back. Then, we get to relax on the beach and watch the sunset. It’s the best!
4. What is your most prized possession?
While it’s not really a possession, I would have to say my family. I recently celebrated 19 years with my wife and we have raised three amazing kids! They are so completely different yet complement each other so well … when they get along. I’m so proud of all of them, and I cherish the time we have together.
5. What does your average weekend look like?
I’m typically busy on Saturdays, doing a live remote broadcast, hosting a private event or getting together with friends and family. By the time Sunday comes, I like to lay on my couch (to keep it from escaping) and watch everything from “Star Trek” and “Star Wars” to “Doctor Who” and “Doctor Strange.” I also love movies like “The Naked Gun”, “Airplane!” and “Spaceballs.” The “Back to the Future” trilogy is also fire.
6. What is the best thing about your career?
I get to interact with and meet FOX listeners, interview celebrities and special guests. I love experiencing things that the everyday listener doesn’t generally have access to, then reporting back from the listeners’ point of view. I also enjoy helping local charities like the Old Newsboys of Flint and the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
7. If you had a “warning” label, what would it say?
WARNING: Hyperactive. May cause mild irritation.
