Courtney Feril, Source Salon
2336 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, MI | @sourcesalon
When I first entered cosmetology, I never imagined opening my own business. I simply wanted to work alongside my coworkers while having time for myself and my kids. Over time, though, I felt a pull to follow in my parents’ footsteps and create something that would benefit not only my family but also my team in meaningful, positive ways.
I believe staying up to date in all aspects of the beauty industry—fashion, cosmetics, health, and hair—helps you stay youthful. How you look and feel are deeply connected. Clients trust us to keep them feeling their best, and we take that seriously. We host classes, bring in educators, and partner with distributors who offer ongoing education. Our team attends hair shows together to stay inspired and on trend.
When building my brand and culture, I envisioned a team rooted in standards, structure, and mutual respect. I was fortunate to handpick men and women I had worked with for years, along with a new generation of talent eager to learn and grow. I’m incredibly proud of the team we’ve built.
The new year always inspires people to better themselves. I encourage everyone to try new things and embrace self-care. In 2026, treat yourself and be brave.
Looking ahead, investing in my staff remains one of my highest priorities. I am nothing without them. Their success is my success. I want to provide resources that help each stylist grow, stay motivated, and set themselves up for a strong future.
One of our most popular services right now is blowouts. A blowout is more than a wash and dry—it’s an experience. It includes cleansing, hydrating, and finishing the hair in a bouncy, luxurious style that leaves clients glowing.
There is no “typical” day in the salon. Every day is new and ever-changing. I’m constantly bringing in supplies and starting the morning with good vibes. My assistant, Addi Asperger, and our front desk manager, Christine Feick, keep my day organized and flowing. We mix color, wrap highlights, cut, blow-dry, clean, and do laundry. It’s beautiful chaos.
My proudest achievement is seeing my family become part of the salon community. My mom, Stacey Childs, helped design the space in every detail, my dad, Steve Childs, keeps things working, and my husband, CJ Feril, helps whenever he can.
