We don’t want to wait. We think waiting is a bad thing, an enemy to be eliminated. If I had a choice, I would never choose to wait. We have no time to waste.
No one taught me how to be in a hurry or hate waiting in lines. I know how to be impatient. What I need is to know how to wait.
There are some amazing things that come from waiting: learning how to be patient AND learning to trust God. I think the faster we move, the faster we expect God to move. And when God doesn’t move fast enough, we tend to take matters into our own hands.
The best thing we can do in these moments is to surrender to God’s timing in our lives. We cannot even comprehend what God has in store for us! He’s working ALL things out for our good, for those who wait for Him, trust Him, and for those who love Him.
Isaiah 40:31 says, “Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.”
Waiting is good for us; waiting gives us strength and endurance.
When we wait expectantly, we believe and expect that God will work. This is the time for surrender and prayer for patience during the waiting season. It’s not easy to go to prayer first when you’re frustrated in the wait, but as you develop this habit (and utter dependence) of prayer, you’ll find the waiting becomes easier.
Often, what feels like waiting is really a season of preparation. It may be that our heart needs some work, or it may be that God is moving in other areas to prepare the way. Submit to God’s timeline and process. Let go of your attempts to control and plan your way out and allow God to lead.
Today, no matter what the world throws your way, no matter what you are waiting on, trust in the Lord, and seek Him above all things.
This is also a time of reflection on our own lives. If you need to deal with a sin, confess and turn away from old ways. If you need to forgive, do the hard work to let go and move forward with forgiveness. If you need to rid your heart of some stubborn habits or beliefs, dig deep and allow God to do his work.
Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Waiting is an act of worship, of surrender, and trusting God. We do not have to do anything but believe that He is working on our behalf, in His perfect timing and according to His will. Today, no matter what the world throws your way, no matter what you are waiting on, trust in the Lord, and seek Him above all things.
