Rick and Robin Ham’s LOVE STORY

How and when did you first meet?
We met at a party at Michigan State in 1981. Rick rescued me from a guy who didn’t seem to understand that I wasn’t interested in him. The very next day, he told his mom he had met a girl he was going to marry someday. Not long after that, we started dating.

Tell us about the proposal.
One night, we were out with a group of friends when he suddenly blurted out, “I think we should get married!”
I replied, “Okay! When?”

Tell us about the wedding.
We were married on Aug. 28, 1982, at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Flint. We were surrounded by all the people we loved most — and who loved us in return.
We invited 325 guests, but more than 400 people showed up! Luckily, my new mother-in-law had been a cook for the Carman-Ainsworth school district, and she quickly gathered several of her fellow school employees to help bring in extra food.
Music for the reception was provided by one of our close friends, and it turned out to be a perfect night.

What do you cherish most about each other?
I love the way he loves me. He has always been my “knight in shining armor.” We are truly best friends, and we know we can count on each other for anything.

Got any sweet, funny, or just plain awesome details you want to share?
We have two wonderful children and their spouses who have blessed us with four incredible grandchildren. Spending time with all of them is one of the greatest joys of our lives.
